Repeat Canyon

Some would say a 24-hour SLC to Moab trip is a waste of time. I would beg to differ.

Stuff four good friends in a quaint little car and off we go. Before finding our campsite (read: dirt road) we took a pit stop to get some nighttime shots at the local mining ruins.

Turns out that we had camped right by an arch, so after a gourmet breakfast of granola bars, we hiked over and gave it a lookie. Not a bad find.

The first rappel, Repeat Jr. Canyon, consisted of a 190ft drop into a crevasse that seemed hell-bent on getting you stuck in there permanently, never to see the light of day again. But, all of us survived through a series of creative body contortions and parting with a fair amount of elbow skin.

Rappel number dos. 170 ft two part drop that ends in a 40 ft free hang. A pair of gloves might not have been a bad idea given the curious sensation that rope makes as it burns through your hand while you descend into the abyss.

And to end the perfect weekend jaunt, a quick exit off the freeway to capture the sunset was in order.
